Darwin is the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, and the gateway to Kakadu National Park. Darwin is world famous for its fabulous food, colourful outdoor markets and diverse activities. The cities proximity to Asia, means you will find a strong Asian influence within the city and its food. Local markets are a big part of Darwin’s personality. At the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, sample international cuisine from some 60 food stalls – Sri Lankan, Turkish, Greek, Cambodian, Japanese – and eat on the beach while you watch the sun set.
Approximately 80 kilometres to the north of Darwin, both Bathurst and Melville Islands make up the “Tiwi Islands.” Creation stories suggest The Tiwi people have occupied the islands since the last ice age, when the islands were separated from the mainland. As a result of years of isolation the Tiwi people have a unique language and culture.
