Perth Wildflowers
With cooler days here and the rains starting, we are thinking about the coming spring and the blooms that come with the warmer weather. There are so many great places in WA to enjoy the wildflower season, here are some of our favourites:
Margaret River and Busselton
The beauty of this region can be enjoyed at any time of year, but there is something special about the south-west at wildflower time. Enjoy the beauty of the Cape Leeuwin area, including the Boranup Forest with its impressive Karri trees and picturesque winding roads. Keep an eye out for tree flowers and Orchids as you wander this region, particularly in the late spring. Not just for wildflowers this region has the added bonus of being well known for food and wine, so don’t forget to stop off at a winery or two. Wheatbelt and Wave Rock
Located near the town of Hyden, Wave Rock attracts tourists from across the country to its 15 meter high rocky crest that arises from the desert. Formed over 2,700 million years, it is an oldie but a goodie! The open station country of this region is perfect for wildflowers, in particular this region can often host everlastings and fields of colours that provide a perfect photo opportunity. While you are in hyden explore this quirky little town and visit the Hippos Yawn, The Lace Palace, the Toy Soldier Display and Mulkas Cave. Esperance and the great southern
Visit the most southern areas of WA and explore some of the most stunning coastline. Esperance is a great jumping off point for exploring national parks including the wonderful Porongorups National Park with it’s stark granite outcrops. While in the great southern and on the hunt of wonderful native orchids, you can also marvel at the Karri Forests of Pemberton and it’s surrounds. Visit the Tinglewood Trees of the Valley of the Giants for some perspective. Albany is also a wonderful spot for exploring the southern wildflowers, with it’s cute shops and historical sights. Kalbarri National Park
Early in the season the blooms start in the northern regions, here is where you will find everlastings, fields of colour and plenty of wide open fields. With over 183,000 hectares of stunning national park Kalbarri National Park is well worth the drive. Enjoy the stunning park while on the hunt for flowers, don’t forget your camera. While you are in the region visit the coastal towns of Geraldton and Dongara for some laid back tranquillity and friendly local vibes.
