Itinerary Details
Day 1
(MD, Motel) Taking the Indian Ocean Drive out of Perth, we take in the sparkling Indian Ocean on our West as we head into the Pinnacle Desert for morning tea and a walk through the landscape. Through many cray fishing towns; Jurien Bay, Green Head & Leeman, to Dongara for lunch. Visit the HMAS Sydney Memorial overlooking Geraldton, via Northampton and the Lynton Convict De
Day 2
(FB, PD, Motel) To Kalbarri National Park and the new Skywalk, perched right on the clifftop, two 100-metre-high lookouts projecting 25 and 17 metres beyond the rim of the Murchison Gorge. Also visit the stunning gorges of Z Bend & Natures Window. Lunch in Kalbarri at the mouth of the Murchison River. In the afternoon we explore the coastal gorges and bluffs. Day 3
(FB, MD, Motel) Returning to the North West Coastal Highway the country changes to open plains and sprawling sheep stations. Continuing to Carnarvon on the Gascoyne River
Day 4
(FB, MD, Motel) Exploring Carnarvon we drive by the plantations on the banks of the Gascoyne before heading up to the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum to learn about the role of this dish in the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing. Later we visit the One Mile Jetty built in 1897 to ship wool and livestock to Fremantle. This precinct also houses the Railway & Shearers Hall of Fame. Note: Space and Jetty Museums included.
Day 5
(FB, MD, Motel) We continue North to Coral Bay with free time to swim on the Ningaloo Reef. We stay the night at Exmouth, the centre for the Navy North West Cape Base and the Harold E Holt Communications Base.
Day 6
(FB, MD, Motel) We travel to the head of the Gulf to take in the view from the Vlamingh Lighthouse. Out on a glass bottom boat cruise to view the striking coral of Ningaloo Reef before continuing further down the Cape to Yardie Creek in the Cape Range National Park, a beautiful, rugged, iconic WA coastline. Returning to Exmouth with an optional Whale Watching cruise in the afternoon or time to relax by the pool. Note: Glass bottom boat included. Whale watching not included, approx $75
Day 7
(FB, MD, Motel) Leaving the Cape and the Coast we enter the Pilbara and the spinifex covered ranges which houses an enormous amount of Australia’s Iron Ore. We reach Tom Price, WA’s highest town above sea level
Day 8
(CB, PL, PD, Motel) Into Karijini National Park, some of the gorges we see today are as impressive as any you would see in Australia. We visit Dales Gorge, Circular Pool and Fortescue Falls at the East end of the park as well as Oxer and Junction Pool lookouts in the West end.
Day 9
(CB, PL, MD, Motel) Departing Tom Price we follow the Rio Tinto railway line towards the coast. Passing through Millstream – Chichester National Park an oasis in the desert nestled within the chocolate brown rocks of the Chichester Range dotted with spinifex and snappy gums. In the afternoon we reach the massive export facilities of the Pilbara.
Day 10
(CB, RD, Motel) Originally developed for Iron Ore export Karratha’s economic export base now includes sea-salt, ammonia and Liquefied Natural Gas from the North West Shelf, Pluto and Gorgon. We tour around this swiftly growing town and Dampier in its hue of red dust and high vis
Day 11
(CB, RD, Motel) Morning visit to Cossack, the oldest port on the Pilbara coast. To Port Hedland still pumping out millions of tonnes of Ore from around Newman
Day 12
(CB, PL, MD, Motel) Finishing off our drive along the Great Northern Highway through Pardoo, Sandfire and the Roebuck Plains to Broome
Day 13
(FB, PD, Motel) John Forrest chose the location of Broome in 1883 and the Pearling industry quickly moved in to set its base up in the protection of Roebuck Bay. A multicultural town, the influences of many nations are still evident in the architecture, cuisine and people. We tour the town, Gantheaume Point and have a picnic dinner on Cable Beach watching the last sunset of our journey
Day 14
(FB) Optional tour to Willie Creek Pearl Farm before we fly out, having loved the West Australian Coast, National Parks and the beautiful Indian Ocean. Note: Willie Creek Tour not included, approx $125
