4 Day Summer at Karri Valley
Day 1
(MD, Motel) South to Bunbury to the Dolphin Discovery Centre to meet the wild Bottlenose Dolphins of Koombana Bay. The resident dolphin population averages about 50 animals, another 100 dolphins visit during the summer. After lunch we head south through Nannup to a Lavender farm. Lavender flowers through December and January the fields are spectacular and the flavored produce delightful. Arriving at Karri Valley Resort on the edge of Beedelup Lake for three nights. Note: Dolphin Centre entry included.
Day 2
(FB, MD, Motel) A morning walk over to the Beedelup Falls before heading over to Pemberton to board the Tramway meandering through towering Karri and Marri forests, over trestle bridges spanning rivers and streams, along one of Australia’s most majestic rail lines. In the afternoon we visit the Understory Art & Nature Trail in Northcliffe, enjoy the music, stories, poetry and more than 70 sculptures created in response to the unique landscapes, people & histories of the Southern Forests region. Return to Karri Valley. Note: Tram and Understory included.
Day 3
(FB, MD, Motel) Over to Walpole for a WOW Wilderness Cruise with Gary Muir. Gary refers to it, “the belly button of the world”, Walpole is a special area that was destined to be developed, but against all odds, in 1910, a small section of land on the Frankland River was designated A-Class reserve. This snowballed to what we now know as the Walpole Wilderness, over 360,000 hectares of reserve; an area of natural and cultural significance recognised for its unique landscapes and lifeforms. Afternoon to the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, designed to immerse you in the forest and leave the eco system untouched, the walk blends seamlessly into its surrounds. Return to Karri Valley. Note: Cruise and Tree Top included.
Day 4
(FB) The Southern Forest Region is home to over 50 different types of fruits and vegetables, truffles, nuts, wine, gourmet products, beef, sheep and dairy farms. One of the highlights in the summer months are the cherries. We stop in on a number of local stalls, farm gates and produce suppliers on the way back to Perth.
